The Sir George Earle Benevolent Fund

The Sir George Earle Benevolent Fund was named in memory of Sir George Foster Earle, who bequeathed a portion of the sale of his home, Baggrave Hall, to provide discretionary financial grants to what the Trustee considers to be cases of hardship.

The Fund can provide grants to current and former employees of Blue Circle and Lafarge UK, and their spouse, partner or dependants, who are suffering hardship.

Some of the Fund's most commonly requested items are:

Stairlifts                                         Walk in Shower/Wet Room

Mobility scooters                          Replacement boilers

Riser recliner chairs                      Replacement kitchen appliances

An important announcement on the future of the Sir George Earle Benevolent Fund from the Trustee of the fund

The Trustee Directors have for a number of years been considering how to continue the excellent work of the Sir George Earle Benevolent Fund (SGEBF) in the ever-changing environment we are now facing.

For all the reasons explained in the leaflet setting out the future of the fund it has come to the point where it is necessary to make decisions that will protect the assets, maintain the good name of the Fund, and continue the good work of the charity well into the future.

The Trustee has conducted a considerable review of the Fund over the past two years and considered several options. with the support of the Charity Commission, and having taken appropriate legal advice, the Trustees have reached an agreement with the United Kingdom Community Foundations (UKCF).

The assets will remain with the current investment manager, the name of the Fund has now slightly changed to the Sir George Earle Fund of the UK Community Foundations, and the administration will be undertaken by the UKCF.

The Trustee Board is satisfied that in the UKCF, we have found an outstanding organisation that has undertaken to maintain the objectives and the ethos of the SGEBF.

Former employees, and the communities surrounding former works, will be able to benefit from the fund for generations to come.

You should have already received the leaflet with all the relevant information in case you and your family wish to make an application to the Fund at some time in the future. Please keep this leaflet for future reference.
